Wirex has been through many ups and downs since its inception — just like the price of bitcoin.
Today, our operation is running better, faster and smoother than ever before. We surpassed 950,000 users and $1 billion in transactions.
Despite reaching many positive milestones, there have been hurdles along the way, and we are committed to being transparent and responsive to our incredible customer community worldwide.
Let’s take a look at some of the feedback you’ve given us and the solutions now in progress.
You raised questions about the Visa ban outside the EU.
Here’s the solution:
The ban was issued to our existing provider. We are migrating to a new provider and our integration is almost complete. Our users will be able to use this card outside the EU (this card will also be Contactless). Development has taken longer than we would have liked, however, we’re nearing closer to release now.
Since the 15th of October, Cards outside the EU no longer work. But we are aiming to have the new cards in place very soon.
You raised concerns about high exchange fees.
With our liquidity pool expanding & launch of W-Pay, users have access to the best bitcoin prices in the industry.
You asked about high blockchain fees on the bitcoin network.
Our Segwit Wallet upgrade will mean substantially lower fees and makes transactions exponentially faster.
And if you transfer bitcoin from your Wirex wallet to another Wirex customer’s bitcoin wallet, there’s no blockchain fee at all!
You requested faster verification procedures.
As of mid-January, we will introduce our upgraded customer verification process. This will be fully-automated in over 20 countries, providing account approval in just a few minutes. Dozens of other countries will have a slightly more manual process but it will be much faster than we could achieve before.
Here’s a quick look at what we’re currently working on and where it will be available:
There’s still more
You asked about alt-coin support.
We’ve partnered with Dash, our developers are working on a wallet. We’re working towards finalising this within Q1 2018. We’ve also announced our commitment to add bitcoin cash, also coming in Q1 next year. We can also confirm that litecoin, ethereum and ripple wallets have also been scheduled for 2018.
You can also convert dozens of altcoins into bitcoin inside the Wirex app to spend with the Wirex card.
Bottom Line: We’re Listening
If you’re beginning to see a pattern, you’d be right. We listen to our customers and provide real solutions based on technical and regulatory challenges.
So if you’re tired of waiting for another card provider to respond to the same challenges that we faced 2 years ago, join the Wirex community today and get ready for a 2018 product release that will knock your Christmas socks off.
We’ve had time and experience to become the most reliable, full-featured bitcoin-powered, personal finance and mobile banking platform available.
And we’ve barely touched the surface. We have a really big (really really big) roadmap planned for 2018 and cannot wait to continue building this community with you.
