What are Primary and Trusted devices?
Your Primary Device is your main device – the one you use to confirm logins, approve new devices, and perform high-risk actions (sending crypto or fiat, changing your account settings or security settings).
A Trusted Device is a phone or tablet you’ve verified as safe. Only Trusted Devices can send money, change your contact info, or update security settings.
Why should I set up a Trusted device?
It keeps your account safe – even if someone knows your password. Only devices you’ve Trusted can do important things in the app:
Sending crypto or fiat
Changing your phone number
Updating login or security settings
Before you start – setting up a Primary Device
Your Primary Device is automatically assigned when you first register your account. It’s usually the same phone or tablet you signed up with.
During registration, you’ll be asked to:
Log in with your email and password
Enter a verification code (sent by SMS or email)
Complete biometric login or 2FA (if enabled)
Once registration is complete, that device becomes your Primary Device — and your first Trusted Device.
How to make a new device Trusted
You can trust your new device or another device you’re using Wirex on in two ways:
Option 1: Confirm from your Primary Device
Start a high-risk action (e.g. send funds, change password)
A pop-up asks you to verify the device
A push notification is sent to your Primary Device
Approve it – your new device is now trusted
Option 2: Use selfie verification
Start a high-risk action (e.g. send funds, change password)
A pop-up asks you to verify the device
Tap “Verify with selfie”
Follow the on-screen steps to take a quick video/selfie
Your device will be trusted once verified
Important: You can’t trust a device from the settings list
To keep your account secure, Wirex doesn’t let you manually mark a device as trusted from Device Management.
All Trusted Devices must go through one of two verification methods:
Verified by your Primary Device
Verified by your face (selfie)
What if I lost my Primary Device?
Don’t worry. You can:
Contact Wirex Support to unlink your lost device and regain access
Trust your new phone using selfie verification
Good to know
You can trust multiple devices, but only one can be Primary
Web app cannot be made trusted
You can always view, rename, or remove devices in Device Management
Common Questions:
Q: I got a new smartphone. Why can’t I send crypto?
A: Your new smartphone isn’t trusted yet. You’ll be asked to:
Approve it from your Primary Device, or
Complete a selfie check in the app
Once verified, your new device becomes trusted.
Q: I logged in on my laptop - why am I being blocked from sending money?
A: Laptops and web browsers can’t be Trusted Devices. If you're on a computer and try to send funds, you'll be asked to:
Approve the action from your trusted smartphone, or
Verify with a selfie check
