South Africa won the Rugby World Cup, Avengers: Endgame broke box office records and Brexit rumbled on (and on).

For us however, 2019 will always stand out as the year we introduced the new-look Wirex, launched our very own token andtook payments to the next level in APAC. Let’s get lost in nostalgia for a moment and review exactly what made this year so special.

Wirex 3.0 is go

February saw some of the coldest temperatures ever recorded here in the UK - but at Wirex, things were just warming up. Atthe end of the month, we launched the hotly-anticipated Wirex 3.0 - a complete overhaul and re-design of the platform to make your Wirex experience better than ever.

As well as looking great, Wirex 3.0 perfectly bridges the gap between crypto and traditional currencies. We think it’s the mostinnovative, practical and personalised payment platform available on the market. Exciting new features include:

  • Unconditional access to Over-the-Counter (OTC) rates for crypto exchanges
  • Instant traditional currency exchange at live interbank rates
  • A fully-customisable accounts dashboard, letting you keep the accounts you use and hide the rest
  • The new-look Wirex Visa card in all its minty glory

If you haven’t already (and seriously, where have you been?) log in to the Wirex app and take it for a spin.

WXT arrives

At Wirex, we believe that it’s a matter of when, not if, cryptocurrency payments become commonplace. In June, we took a huge step towards mainstream adoption with the release of our own native cryptocurrency, the Wirex Token (WXT.) WXT is a Stellar-based utility token, specifically created with the token economy in mind and designed to help you get even more out of your Wirex, whether it’s heavily-discounted fees or supercharged rewards.

Depending on the number of tokens you hold, you’ll unlock a trove of rewards and benefits. Save money on exchange fees, bank transfer fees, withdrawal fees, credit/debit card top-ups, monthly management fees, ATM charges and Swift transfer fees. How much you save is up to you!

Introducing the next-gen Wirex card

Autumn arrived, the days got shorter and the weather took a turn for the worse. Luckily, our attention was focused somewhere more exotic than rainy London – Singapore to be exact, where we launched the game-changing new multicurrency Wirex Visa card at the Singapore Fintech Festival.

Designed to be the ultimate travel companion, the Wirex Visa travelcard allows you to spend 150+ currencies at more than 54 million locations around the world (anywhere Visa is accepted), earn up to 1.5% back in BTC on all in-store purchases and withdraw money from ATMs around the world for free. Plus, all traditional currency exchanges are completely free, giving you the flexibility to spend in the currency you want, wherever you find yourself. If you’re based in APAC and don’t already have one, what are you waiting for?

There’s nothing left to say other than Happy New Year from everyone at Wirex - we hope you’re looking forward to 2020 as much as we are!
