Wirex introduces: IBANs for EUR accounts and new account limits

We are pleased to announce some exciting improvements to our service in the EEA. From today, all EUR accounts will be linked to an IBAN. What does this mean? It means that users can now fund their Wirex EUR accounts by bank transfer, as well as debit or credit card making it easier than ever to make crypto purchases, receive payments from your friends and family or even have your wages paid directly into your Wirex account.

What are IBANs?

IBANs (International Bank Account Numbers) were first adopted by the European Committee for Banking Standards (ECBS) to facilitate cross-border payments within the EU. Since then, the function has been adopted globally, with some 69 countries from Asia to the Caribbean using the IBAN system to help fulfil international remittances. Wirex GBP accounts already boast IBANs; due to overwhelming demand from our European users, we have been able to begin to trial the functionality in mainland Europe with the hope of making IBANs available to all EEA countries in the coming weeks! And the good news doesnt end there

New account limits

Weve doubled our account limits! Maximum balances for Wirex accounts are now:

• 15,000 in the GBP account
• 16,000 in the EUR account
• $20,000 in the USD account

This means that users can now load their accounts with up to 15,000, 16,000 or $20,000 at a time. Use it to buy crypto, exchange between traditional currencies or convert and spend on your Wirex Visa card. Please note that transaction limits for the Wirex Visa card (including ATM withdrawals) remain at 7500, 8000 and $10,000 for GBP, EUR and USD respectively.
