3DS FAQ

Q: What is 3D Secure (3DS)?

A: 3D Secure (3DS) is an added layer of security for online payments. It helps protect your card from unauthorized use by confirming your identity during transactions.

Q: How does 3D Secure work?

A: When you make an online purchase, you may be asked to confirm the payment. This could be receiving a one-time SMS code, or approving the payment in the Wirex app — depending on the method available.

Q: How is my 3DS verification method set?

A: During device verification in the Wirex app, you’ll be asked to set up your preferred method for confirming payments — such as biometric authentication, SMS code, or in-app approval. This method will be used for future 3DS checks.

To enhance the security of your transactions and personal information, we recommend setting up a Trusted Device.

Q: Why is 3D Secure important?

A: It adds two-factor authentication to your transactions, helping prevent fraud and ensuring only you can approve payments made with your card.

Q: Does Wirex Card support 3D Secure?

A: Yes — Wirex Cards support 3D Secure. You'll be prompted to complete a 3DS check when required by a merchant.

Q: What happens if I don’t complete the 3DS check?

A: If you don’t complete the verification, the payment may be declined or flagged as suspicious. To avoid disruption, always follow the confirmation steps.

Q: Do all merchants require 3D Secure?

A: Not all online merchants use 3DS. However, if a transaction requires it, you’ll automatically be guided through the verification process.
