Step-by-Step guide: Identity verification

When you sign up for an account with Wirex, one of the requirements is to verify your identity. This process ensures the safety and security of our users and helps prevent fraud and other illegal activities. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of verifying your identity step-by-step.

What is identity verification?

Identity verification is the process of submitting proof of identity documentation to confirm the personal information you provided when creating your Wirex account. This verification process is required by law to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. It is also a crucial step in protecting our users from fraud and other illegal activities.

What documents are required for identity Verification?

For identity verification, you will need to provide a valid government-issued document. This document must include your full name, date of birth, a photo, and the document’s expiration or validity date. Wirex accepts the following documents for identity verification:

  • A valid government-issued passport (the page with the machine-readable code only)
  • A valid government-issued identity card (both sides)
  • A valid government-issued driving licence (both sides)
  • For non-residents: a work permit, a resident card or any other identification document issued by the host country.

Please ensure that all documents submitted are in English and full colour copies. It's also important to note that document upload and selfie verification can only be done through the Wirex mobile app.

For a comprehensive list of accepted documents, please refer to our guideline Identity verification: Accepted documents.

How to upload your proof of identity document

To verify your Wirex account, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Confirm personal information

Enter your personal information, such as your name, date of birth, and address. Make sure that the information you provide matches your government-issued ID.

Step 2: Tap “Verify Identity”

Tap the “Verify Now” button to start the verification process.

Step 3: Select document type

On the Identity Verification screen, select the type of document you want to provide for verification. You can choose from a valid government-issued passport, identity card, driving licence, or other identification document.

Step 4: Upload your proof of identity document

Take a photo of your proof of identity document. Ensure that the image of your document is clear, not blurred, does not show any glare, and is not cropped. Once you are satisfied that the picture of your POI is clear and fully readable, tap “My document is readable” to submit the image.

Step 5: Selfie Verification

Please keep in mind that depending on the country of your residence, we may ask for either a photo or video selfie. Please follow the instructions provided with great care. Moreover, make sure that your selfie displays your entire face clearly. In case you need to redo the photo, simply tap "Retake photo”. Once you are content that your selfie displays your entire face clearly, click on "Upload photo" to send the image.

Step 6: Submission confirmation

After submitting your documents, you will see a submission confirmation. This means your documents were successfully submitted for processing.

Step 7: Verification

Verification is usually completed within 5 minutes, although it may take longer in certain cases. Once your documents are verified (or rejected), you will receive an email and in-app notification.

By following these simple steps, you can easily verify your identity and start using your Wirex account. If you have any questions or encounter any issues during the verification process, please don't hesitate to contact our support team.
