When you sign up for an account with Wirex, one of the requirements is to verify your identity. This process ensures the safety and security of our users and helps prevent fraud and other illegal activities. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of verifying your identity step-by-step.
What is identity verification?
Identity verification is the process of submitting proof of identity documentation to confirm the personal information you provided when creating your Wirex account. This verification process is required by law to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. It is also a crucial step in protecting our users from fraud and other illegal activities.
What documents are required for identity Verification?
For identity verification, you will need to provide a valid government-issued document. This document must include your full name, date of birth, a photo, and the document’s expiration or validity date. Wirex accepts the following documents for identity verification:
- A valid government-issued passport (the page with the machine-readable code only)
- A valid government-issued identity card (both sides)
- A valid government-issued driving licence (both sides)
- For non-residents: a work permit, a resident card or any other identification document issued by the host country.
Please ensure that all documents submitted are in English and full colour copies. It's also important to note that document upload and selfie verification can only be done through the Wirex mobile app.

How to upload your proof of identity document
To verify your Wirex account, please follow these steps:
Step 1: Initiate Identity verification process
The identity verification process initiates when you elevate your status to Starter. Proceed to Upgrade Verification Level page.Click “Pass verification”.
Step 2: Tap “Verify Identity” → Tap “Continue”
Tap the “Continue” button to start the verification process.
Step 3: Select document type → Data and Privacy agreement submission
Tap on the checkbox if you agree with the Consent to process personal data and click continue.
Step 4: Confirm personal information
Enter your personal information, such as your name, date of birth, gender, and residence country . Make sure that the information you provide matches your government-issued ID.
Step 5: Select type and issuing country of identity document
On the Identity Verification screen, select the type of document you want to provide for verification. You can choose from a valid government-issued passport, identity card, driving licence, or other identification document.
Step 6: Upload your proof of identity document
Take a photo of your proof of identity document. Ensure that the image of your document is clear, not blurred, does not show any glare, and is not cropped. Once you are satisfied that the picture of your POI is clear and fully readable, tap “Upload document” to submit the image.
Step 7: Liveness Verification
Please keep in mind that depending on the country of your residence, we may ask for the Liveness Verification. Liveness Verification is a crucial step in our security measures, ensuring that you, as our valued client, are protected with an additional layer of identity authentication. This process involves confirming that the person engaging in the transaction is physically present and actively participating, safeguarding against unauthorized use of personal information. By incorporating Liveness Verification, we enhance the overall security of our platform, providing you with a more robust and trustworthy experience.
